Managed IT Support: What You're Actually Paying For

"Managed services" is one of those phrases that gets thrown around a lot in IT — but ask five providers what it actually includes, and you'll likely get five different answers. If you're trying to work out whether it's worth it for your business, here's what it should actually mean.

It's not just "someone to call when it breaks"

If your firewall, antivirus, or security policies were set up once and never looked at again, that's a problem. Threats evolve constantly — a setup that was solid three years ago can have gaps today that nobody's noticed, simply because nobody's checked.

What's usually included

Proactive monitoring. Your systems are being watched around the clock, not just checked when something goes wrong.

Help desk support. A real person your team can call or email when they're stuck, without a mountain of technical jargon getting in the way.

Patching and updates. Security patches and software updates applied on a schedule, not "whenever someone remembers."

Device and network management. Laptops, servers, WiFi, and everything in between, kept in a state where they're actually reliable.

Reporting you can understand. Visibility into what's working, what's been fixed, and where the risks are — without needing an IT degree to read it.

Why "unlimited support" isn't always the selling point it sounds like

Plenty of providers lead with "unlimited tickets" as their headline. It sounds generous, but it can just as easily mean they're incentivised to let problems recur rather than actually solve them. The real value isn't how many times you can call — it's how rarely you need to.

The real test: does it feel invisible?

Good managed IT support doesn't announce itself constantly. Your team isn't fighting with slow laptops, chasing password resets, or waiting half a day for a fix. It just works — quietly, in the background, the way it should.

That's the standard we hold ourselves to at Kintegris: proactive, reliable support that lets you get on with running the business, not babysitting the technology behind it.

If you're not sure whether your current setup is actually "managed" or just reactive support in disguise, let's have a conversation.
